The Freeborn County Humane Society will host for the first time ever a Heroes for Ferals walk-a-thon event.

The walk-a-thon will begin at 2 p.m. Oct. 13. Registration begins at 1 p.m. at the Brookside boat landing, and the walk will go around Fountain Lake. The event will happen rain or shine. Refreshments will be served after the walk.

Participants are asked to collect pledge money. Those funds will go to the Unsocialized Stray Cat Initiative, which is a low-cost program offered through the local Humane Society. The program spays, neuters and vaccinates barn, stray or feral cats in Freeborn County.

“I encourage everyone to come out and walk around beautiful Fountain Lake with us to help us raise money for this vital program,” board member Dee Amberg said.

Pledge forms can be picked up at the Humane Society office during normal business hours. The office’s phone number is 377-8501. If you are unable to participate in the walk-a-thon but still want to help, send a check to the Humane Society (USCI), P.O. Box 423, Albert Lea, MN, 56007.
