ST. PAUL — Minnesota’s lieutenant governor has gotten a unique view of her Capitol office — from thousands of feet up.
Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon jumped from a plane at 12,500 feet and landed by parachute on the Capitol lawn Tuesday as part of an event staged to show support for soldiers and their families. The plunge included a 120 miles per hour free fall through a clear blue sky.
Safely on the ground, she described it as “an exhilarating experience” she wouldn’t hesitate to repeat.
The 66-year-old Democratic politician made her tandem jump with the touring U.S. Army Parachute Team, also known as the “Golden Knights.”
Prettner Solon joins a list of politicians, including former President George H.W. Bush, who have taken to skydiving to promote causes or for recreation.
