You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Concerns in Freeborn County: Please help Senior Resources, the United Way of Freeborn County, Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce and RSVP to know about your top concerns for our area. You can go online to http://survey.constantcontact.com/survey/a07e6b6jvpeh6do0ma2/start to complete the 12-minute survey or call 377-7433 to request your copy by mail.

Albert Lea Area Schools: Many children need adult help to improve their reading or do other homework. Plan now to mentor a child through the Minnesota Reading Corps program and Reading Partners in the elementary schools to help a child prepare to succeed in school. You will volunteer 30 minutes one or two times per week. Call 379-5115 for more details.

First-aid kids an RSVP fundraiser: These kits are still available at Ace Hardware in Albert Lea.

Big Island Rendezvous: It’s great to celebrate Minnesota history leading a tour with elementary students to stops in the Big Island Rendezvous. Tour guides are needed to ensure that classes get to their appointed area on schedule. Just come to the orientation at 5 p.m. Sept. 25 at Bancroft Bay. You are needed for Sept. 27 and 28 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Help one day or two and get free admission to the weekend event. As Perry Vining says, “We never have enough guides for school days.”

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
