You Can Help

Here are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.
First-aid kits: These first-aid kits, a fundraiser for RSVP, are still available at Ace Hardware, Albert Lea. This ends Sept. 30.
Big Island Rendezvous: Wow! The Big Island Rendezvous will have 550 more students this October; that will be more than 3,000 students learning first hand about life in the early 1800s. Tour guides are needed to ensure that classes get to their appointed area on schedule. Just come to Senior Resources to sign up as a guide and get your shuttle pass. You are needed Oct. 4 and 5 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and should report for instructions at 8 a.m. the day you will be a guide. Help one day or two and get free admission to the weekend event. As Perry Vining says, “We never have enough guides for school days.”
Healthy lives for volunteers: Studies of the health benefits of volunteering among older Americans show that they frequently live longer and report less disability. They add more life to their years. You can help yourself to these benefits when you help out in your neighborhood or with family. A great way to get connected to volunteer openings in Freeborn County is to call Pat Stumme at RSVP, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program in the Senior Resources Office at 377-7433.
RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
