The Albert Lea group of American Association of University Women presented a scholarship to Ri Hong Zheng. Hong is a student at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, where she is majoring in psychology and family social science.

After acquiring work experience in her field through internships, her future endeavor is to attend graduate school and get her master’s degree in marriage and family therapy where she can focus on first and second generation immigrant families.

 

Basket night fundraiser on Friday

The Lakeview Lions Club to hold its basket night fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Amerian Legion in Albert Lea. Dinner served will be three chicken strips, hamburger or pulled pork sandwiches with a basket of fries for $8.

 

Knights of Columbus Ocktoberfest to be Saturday

The Knights of Columbus will hold its Oktoberfest Saturday at 1002 S. Broadway Ave., Albert Lea. Dinner will be at 6. Brats, sauerkraut and potato salad will be served. German beer will also be available. The Alley Katz Band variety band will perform from 7 to 10 p.m.

 

Solos and singles dance to be held in Blooming Prairie

Austin Area Solos and Singles dance will be from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the Blooming Prairie Service Men’s Club. The Big Ben Band will be performing. The cost is $7 for members and $8 for nonmembers.

 

Oktoberfest to feature German style dinner

Zion Lutheran Church of Albert Lea will be holding their Oktoberfest from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday. A German family style dinner will be served which includes: brats, meatballs, sauerkraut, hot german potato salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, glazed carrots, coleslaw, bread, beverages and German chocolate cake. Adults are $12, children 3 to 10 are $3 and under 3 are free. To purchase tickets call the church office at 373-8609.
