Walking for a cause

Halverson Elementary School students give high-fives to the Albert Lea mascot and Principal Nick Sofio as they start a walk-a-thon on Oct. 5. The students raised almost $14,000, and 97 percent of kids at the school took part in the walk. Proceeds will go toward adding playground equipment at the school so that all students, even those with disabilities, can join in the fun. Halverson’s parent-teacher organization, SPIRIT, and the Special Education Advisory Council are now working to raise the final $10,000 that is needed to complete the project. Students, staff and parents thank all the people and businesses who donated to the project. -- Submitted
