Doris N. Katzung, 97, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Sterling House.

She was born Aug. 9, 1915, in Badger, Iowa, the daughter of Harland and Lena (Larson) Erickson. She and her sister Hazel were raised by foster parents Spencer and Jennie Bjelland. The family moved to the Joice, Iowa, area and Doris graduated from Joice High School in 1934. That same year the family moved to a farm near Kiester. On Sept. 15, 1937, Manville Katzung and Doris Erickson married. They farmed near the Kiester and Vinge, Iowa, area until 1948 when they bought a farm near Owatonna. Doris and the family attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Meriden. She was active in the ladies circle and taught Sunday school. She remained on the farm after her husband’s death until 1998. She moved into town at Cedar Place Apartments and then later to the Sterling House.

Doris especially loved her home and family, flowers, gardening, cats, embroidery work and braiding rugs.

She is survived by her daughters, Betty Sponholtz of Lowell, Mass., Dixie Bradbury of Ashville, N.C., and Janann (and Rodney) Langer of Owatonna; sons: Jerry (and Sharon) Katzung of Owatonna, Vernell (and Karen) Katzung of Owatonna and Gene (and Darlene) Katzung of Owatonna; daughter-in-law, Donna Katzung of Moundsview; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son Merle Katzung; infant daughter; sisters Hazel Erickson and Ruth Hefte.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gary Rusinko officiating. Interment will be in the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Vinge, Iowa.
