Edna Jirsa, 91, Glenville

Funeral services for Edna Faye Jirsa, 91, of Glenville, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Glenville. The Rev. Deb Miller will officiate. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Edna died Nov. 19, 2012, in Colorado.

Edna Jirsa

Edna Faye (Abbey) Jirsa was born on Aug. 21, 1921, in Northwood, the daughter of Chauncey and Minnie (Thompto) Abbey. Edna attended Northwood School. In June of 1936 Edna was united in marriage to Elmer Pedersen. They were blessed with three children, Clarice, Connie and Charles. She was a home maker until 1952 when she worked at the Myrtle Creamery, Ken’s Bar in Myrtle, then leased a bar and grill in Myrtle. In 1962 Edna married Walter Jirsa of Glenville. Together they farmed in the Glenville area for 25 years. Edna also worked at a bowling alley in Albert Lea during this time. Edna loved farming; she also liked to refinish and upholster old furniture, paint, wallpaper, go out to eat and cross stitch. She did beautiful work. After retiring from farming they moved to Albert Lea. In the last years Edna lived in Glenville; she loved her house. Edna also enjoyed gardening and baking pies (apple was her specialty). Edna loved her family, every new baby was her pride and joy!

Edna is survived by her daughters, Clarice (special friend Neal Bergland) Dempewolf of Glenville and Connie (special friend Roger Lee) Nelson of Northwood; grandchildren, Daniel (Kim) Dempewolf of Northglenn, Colo., Patricia (David) Lawson of Myrtle, Dawn Prestholt of Albert Lea, Todd Dempewolf of Rochester, Lisa Dempewolf of Albert Lea, Charles Dempewolf of Albert Lea, Steven Nelson of Myrtle, Deborah (Mark) Hornberger of Surprise, Ariz., Scott Nelson of Rochester, Sheila Nelson of Myrtle; 13 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; son, Charles; grandson, Bruce; former husband, Elmer; son-in-law, Arthur and six sisters and brothers.
