Funeral services for Richard “Dick” E. Montei of Albert Lea, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church of Albert Lea. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Military honors accorded by the Albert Lea area veterans groups.

Dick died on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Thorne Crest Retirement Community. He was 77 years of age.

Dick was born Nov. 4, 1934, in Owatonna. The son of Frederick and Josephine (Everett) Montei, he moved to Albert Lea at the age of seven and graduated from Albert Lea High School and served in the U.S. Army in Stuttgart, Germany.

On April 4, 1959, he was united in marriage to Genevieve Peterson at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Together they had two sons. Dick had been employed in the 1950s with St. Paul Clothiers, Bill Olson Chevrolet from the 1960s to 1994 and the Motor Inn Company from 1994 to 2004. He was an active member of the American Legion, and was a member of First Lutheran Church where he was past president in 1975, and served as an usher for many years.

Dick loved baseball, hockey and playing golf. He was always very social, active and energetic.

Dick is survived by his wife, Gen of Albert Lea; sons, Scott Montei of Excelsior and Jon (Jane) Montei of Mendota Heights; grandchildren Bobbi (Jose) Padilla and Andrew and Crosby Montei; great grandchildren, Tyler and Tanner Klar and Alexander Padila; brother, Fred (Charlotte) Montei of Coon Rapids; sister, Bonnie (Jim) Simon of Cannon Falls; nieces and nephews, Karen, Paul, Sally, Eric, Teri and Ryon; and other loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and niece, Jami Simon.

Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church parking lot fund.
