GOLDEN VALLEY — Two Twin Cities organizations known as advocates for the disabled plan to merge.

Courage Center and Allina Health announced the proposed merger Friday between Allina’s Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute and Golden Valley-based Courage Center.

The two organizations plan to work together to offer more streamlined and coordinated services for people and families dealing with disabilities.

Sister Kenny specializes in treating people with spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, cancer and sports-related injuries. Allina said Sister Kenny serves more than 70,000 people each year through nine Allina Health hospitals and 24 outpatient locations.

Courage Center is a nonprofit rehabilitation and resource center that helps children and adults improve their health and independence.

Terms were not disclosed. The merger is expected to be finalized in the spring.
