Minn. St., Mankato beats Conn. 3-1 for championship

STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Johnny McInnis scored two goals to lead Minnesota State, Mankato to a 3-1 win over Connecticut on Sunday in the championship game of the UConn Hockey Classic.
The Mavericks (12-6-2) held the Huskies (5-8-2) to just 18 shots on goal. UConn managed to take only four shots in the first period but took a 1-0 lead on Tyler Bouchard’s goal at 10:47.
McInnis scored twice in the second period to give the Mavericks the lead and Zach Palmquist added an empty-net goal with 7 seconds to play.
Stephon Williams made 17 stops in goal for MSUM, while Matt Grogan had 28 saves for the Huskies, who were outshot 31-18.
