MINNEAPOLIS — Violent crime in Minneapolis has gone up slightly in 2012 — but the city is still on pace to finish the year with some of the lowest crime levels in decades.
Preliminary numbers show that violent crime in Minneapolis increased about 7.6 percent over 2011 — which saw the lowest level of violent crime since 1983.
The increase is mostly due to violence in the first part of the year. As of the start of April 2012, violent crime was up 32 percent over the same period in 2011. But violent crime decreased through the rest of the year, bringing the overall rate down.
The city won’t release final crime numbers for 2012 until early January.
