Darwin DeRemer, 82, Albert Lea

Darwin Earl DeRemer passed away on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013. He was 82 years old. Private memorial services are being held at a later date.

Darwin was born on July 13, 1930, in Blue Earth County to Verne and Gladys (Murrain) DeRemer. He grew up in the Mapleton-Pemberton area and attended Pemberton schools. On Oct. 27, 1952, he was united in marriage to May Pirkel in Mankato. Together they raised three daughters. After marriage, the family lived in Mankato, and in 1973 they settled in Albert Lea. He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

At age 18 Darwin began driving semi trucks and for the next 50 years, that was his life. There was an article published in the Albert Lea Tribune and the American Truck Historical Society about his 50-year golden achievement award and his 6 million accident-free miles. After he retired in 2001 he enjoyed playing golf.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Verne and Gladys.

Darwin is survived by his wife, May DeRemer, of Albert Lea; daughters, Vickie DeRemer of Austin, Brenda DeRemer of Minneapolis and Lola (Dwight) Turner of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Ashley Hill of Minneapolis, and Jade Jewell of Minneapolis; brothers, Dale (Connie) DeRemer, Dean (Karen) DeRemer, and Wayne DeRemer; sister, Carolyn (Dan) Quesada; and several nieces and nephews.
