Meet the Athlete: Anissa Janzig

Q: What year are you in school?

A: Sophomore.

 

Q: What school do you attend?

A: United South Central.


Q: Who is in your immediate family?

A: My mother, Tami; my dad, Jonathan; and my brother, Jordan, 21.


Q: What sports are you involved in?

A: Volleyball, basketball and track.


Q: What number are you?

A: No. 12.


Q: How did you get started in basketball?

A: Ever since I was a kid, I just liked watching it, I liked to play it. I knew I wanted to be a basketball player. So in third grade, I joined our school’s program. I’ve loved it ever since.


Q: What other extracurriculuar activities are you involved in?

A: Kids for a Cure, student government and my church’s youth group.


Q: Did your parents play sports when they were younger?

A: My mom was a three-sport athlete, too. She played basketball, volleyball and softball. And my dad played basketball.


Q: Did your brother play any sports?

A: No, he was not in sports.


Q: What are your sports-related achievements?

A: I’ve been Academic All-Conference since seventh-grade track in all of my seasons, all my sports. And Academic All-State in track and All-Conference in volleyball and track. And, volleyball my freshman year I was Most Improved Player and then my sophomore year Best Offensive and Most Valuable. And I’ve also been in the state True Team track meet for two years now.


Q: What are your sports-related goals?

A: For volleyball, I really want to step it up and improve not only my hitting, but also I want to be a better all-around player. I want to help my team be more successful and go far. I’d also really love to go far individually in volleyball as well. I would love to play college ball; that’s my biggest dream.

Basketball, right now, I just want everybody to finish the season injury-free. But I also want to improve in all the aspects of the game and just help my team to be successful in the seasons to come.

For track, I also really want to improve a lot this year. I want to contribute to the team as much as I can, because I would really love to see us get back to state True Team and do well there.


Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete? Why?

A: Kerri Walsh. I’ve loved watching her ever since I was little. She’s such an inspirational player. She brings so much energy and fun to the court every time she steps on it. And she’s a great athlete. She never gives up on anything.


Q: What is your favorite subject in school?

A: English. I love reading and writing. It comes very naturally to me.


Q: Who is your favorite teacher?

A: Kara Christianson, my biology teacher. She’s very sarcastic and we have kind of the same personality, so we get along well.


Q: What are your hobbies?

A: I don’t really have that many outside of sports. But I like to go shopping and hang out with my friends and eat. And I love to read. The “Hunger Games” and the “Twilight” saga are my absolute favorites.


Q: What is your dream job?

A: I haven’t really put much thought into it. Maybe like an interior designer or something.


Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?

A: My favorite movies are the “Hunger Games,” “Breaking Dawn Part II” and “Pitch Perfect.” My favorite TV show is probably “River Monsters” and “Tosh.0.”


Q: What is your favorite food?

A: I like Nutella, chocolate and pastas and bread.


Q: What is an interesting fact about you?

A: I’m addicted to Nutella. I go through like two or three jars a week. I have a problem.
