Meet the Athlete: Kohl Kriewall

Q: What school do you attend?
A:
Albert Lea High School.
Q: Who is your immediate family?
A:
My mom and dad, Todd and Ann Kriewall. I have a sister, Karli, (senior in high school) and a brother, Kyle (sophomore in college).
Q: What sports are you involved in?
A:
I played football and then track in the spring.
Q: What number are you?
A:
No. 10.
Q: How did you get started in hockey?
A:
I’ve been playing since I was real young I guess. I’ve always just been playing. I come from a wrestling family. A lot of my friends got me into hockey when I was younger.
Q: What other extracurriculuar activities are you involved in?
A:
I’m just a student athlete. I’m involved with church. School news, Tiger Vision, I’m involved with.
Q: Did you parents play sports when they were younger?
A:
My dad wrestled at the University of Iowa, and my mom was a gymnast.
Q: Your dad couldn’t convince you to do wrestling?
A:
He tried when I was younger. I wrestled for a couple years. I played hockey and wrestled when I was really young. But then I chose hockey. I had to choose one or the other.
Q: Do you have siblings that play or have played any sports?
A:
My sister dives. She’s committed to the University of Boise State. My brother played football.
Q: What are your sports-related achievements?
A:
Last year we made it to the section semi-finals and beat New Prague in triple overtime to make it to the semi-finals.
Q: What are your sports-related goals?
A:
To continue to get better and hopefully make it to the state tournament. All-Conference athlete for hockey, that’s my goal this year.
Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete? Why?
A:
Probably have to be Claude Giroux. I like his style of play and I like how he goes hard. He’s not the most talented player, but he works hard. It’s kind of how I play, too.
Q: What is your favorite school subject?
A:
History. I got a good teacher this year, and I enjoy it. It comes pretty easy for me.
Q: Who is your favorite teacher?
A:
Jim Haney, my history teacher.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A:
I like to hunt and fish, and hang out with my friends.
Q: What is your dream job?
A:
If it’s not a professional athlete, it’d be something in the business field. I’m not really sure yet.
Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?
A:
I like “Duck Dynasty,” “Prison Break,” “Breaking Bad” and “Sports Center.”
Q: What is your favorite food?
A:
Lasagna. I like my mom’s lasagna. The way she makes it, homemade lasagna.
Q: What is an interesting fact about you?
A:
I’m a junior and I’m the smallest one on the varsity team.
