ST. PAUL — Details about the security of and access to Minnesota driver’s license information are likely to be among the findings in a new state audit.
The Office of Legislative Auditor is releasing findings today of an inquiry into the Department of Public Safety driver’s license database. The findings are pertinent after the recent case where a DNR officer accessed driver’s license data belonging to thousands of Minnesotans, mostly women.
That employee has been fired and is facing misdemeanor charges. The audit predated the DNR data breach though the legislative auditor is also looking into that incident.
Today’s audit aims to identify the type of information compiled, how law enforcement uses it and the security of the data. A legislative committee will discuss the findings after the audit’s release.
