MINNEAPOLIS — The attorney for a Minnetrista man says his client feels “overwhelming guilt” after his SUV crashed through thin ice and his baby daughter drowned.
Jonathan Markle, 41, appeared in court Friday, a day after being charged with criminal vehicular homicide.
Prosecutors say Markle had a blood-alcohol content of 0.13 percent two hours after his SUV broke through the ice of Lake Minnetonka last month. Minnesota’s legal limit is 0.08 percent.
Markle, his wife and their 2-year-old daughter escaped, but his 8-month-old daughter Tabitha was strapped in the backseat. Firefighters pulled her out, but she died at a hospital.
Markle’s attorney, Joe Friedberg, said the system “can’t punish him any more than he has been punished.”
