A memorial service for Mark Shaun Squires of Minneapolis will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Clayton Balsley will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the Albert Lea youth sports program of choice.

Mark Squires was born May 10, 1965, in Albert Lea the fourth child and son of David and Lucille Squires. He was a 1983 graduate of Albert Lea High School and a 1987 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a degree in finance and economics. He utilized his degree working for various companies in the Minneapolis area. He worked in the finance department at Coloplast for the past four years.

Mark enjoyed playing many sports and he played them well when he was young. He played baseball, golf, hockey, football and was a pretty good wrestler. When he was in seventh grade he made his choice to play hockey as his main sport. He was captain of his high school team as well as captain of the Eau Claire Bluegold hockey team. He played four years for the Bluegolds. After college he became pretty serious about his golf game and he was actually a good golfer even if he was “standing on the wrong side of the ball,” a quote from a gentleman from Scotland whose home course was St. Andrews. He stayed in touch with several friends from Albert Lea and his college buddies who were located in the metro area.

Along with Todd Limesand, Mark had an annual golf tournament in memory of high school friend, David Casterton, who died of cancer at a very early age. For the 20 or so years, the money raised has been donated to the Albert Lea Youth Baseball Association in memory of David.

Mark is survived by his parents, David and Lucille Squires; sisters, Teresa (Mark) Isley of Evansdale, Iowa, Jeanette Stevens of Lennox, S.D., and Carilee Squires of Albert Lea; uncles, Donald Squires and Michael (Peggy) Squires of Albert Lea; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Alta Squires and Louis and Esther Conaway; uncle and aunt Charles and Lois Squires, uncle and aunt Rodger and “Joey” Squires and aunt Mary Ann Martinson.

Mark was a designated donor and he has donated various organs to Life Source of Minneapolis and will touch 60 or more lives through his donations.

Mark will be missed by his family and those lives he touched.
