A mother and son duo run a local digital printing shop, and most Albert Leans probably have seen their work.

Nick and Barb Rognes create decals, signs and other printed products at Tic Toc Digital Printing Plus in Albert Lea. Recently, they created a large decal for one of Innovance’s trucks, but they’ve also been creating signage for the last eight years out of their shop on Myers Road in the Jobs Industrial Park.

Tic Toc’s digital printer creates a decal by passing back and forth over a blank decal sheet. The printer can also cut around letters.

“I started doing vinyl work in 1993,” Nick said. “It’s something I fell into, and I just really took to it.”

The process they use now is fully digital. Nick helps customers design logos and how the final product should look by using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop on his computer. He sends a design to the digital printer, which prints onto paper or decal sheets. That printer prints digitally and can cut out decals, too.

“A lot of people think they need to go to bigger towns to get these kinds of products,” Nick said.

Barb handles the sales and bookkeeping aspect. The shop is housed in R&R Truck Repair, owned by Larry Rognes. The indoor shop makes it easy for Larry to install decals on vehicles that are being serviced.

“It works nice that we can do both businesses here,” Barb said.

Nick also likes that the shop does such a variety of products. There are the sticky decals for cars, boats, golf carts and other vehicles, and they also create signs, banners and backlit signage.

“We tend to put a lot of emphasis on quality,” Nick said.

Signs around town that people may recognize include the backlit signs at Ranch & Pet Supply and Yamato Steak House. Then there is the large banner on the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center with Ross’ photo on it. And there is plenty of other smaller decals, like some of the reflective decals on ambulances for Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea. And all the decals on Albert Lea Police Department cars were created and installed by Tic Toc.

“I love seeing my stuff around town,” Nick said.

They’ve done some work in smaller communities around Albert Lea such as Hollandale and Geneva, but they haven’t had the need to do business much farther away.

“We like to stay local,” Barb said. “We really do stay busy; God has blessed us.”

The business is at 2401 Myers Road in Albert Lea. It can be reached at 373-2663. Tic Toc Digital Printing is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Its website is www.tictocdigital.com.
