DULUTH — A trial for a Duluth police officer accused of assaulting a man in a wheelchair at a detox center has been moved out of St. Louis County because of pretrial publicity.

Richard Jouppi is charged with misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct resulting from his struggle with Anthony Jackson last September. Videotape shows Jouppi trying to restrain a belligerent Jackson at the Duluth Detoxification Center and punching him after Jackson hit him in the face.

The officer’s attorney argued Jouppi couldn’t get a fair trial in Duluth. District Court Judge John DeSanto agreed and moved the November trial to Pine County.
