Big Nine festival is Friday in Rochester

The 81st annual Big Nine Music Festival will be Friday at Rochester Mayo High School.

Daytime performances will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will continue until 2:45 p.m. with a break for lunch. Bands will perform in the Mayo High School gym, orchestras in the auditorium and the choirs at Autumn Ridge Church sanctuary. The clinicians for the day will be Doug Orzolek, a band clinician from the University of St. Thomas, Dr. Joseph Rodgers, an orchestra clinician from Minnesota State University and choral clinician Chris Aspaas from St. Olaf College.

Daytime performances are free and the public is welcome. The Albert Lea orchestra will perform at 8:30 a.m., the choir at 10 a.m. and the band at 12:45 p.m.

The grand finale concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the gym. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. The concert will showcase performances by the select orchestra, band and choir.

Singing in the select choir form Albert Lea will be Ella Otten, Katie Williamson, Gretta Johnson, Marleny Huerta-Apanco, Laura Piper, Kelli Sanderson, Emma Behling, Jalen Jimenez, Nick Walther, Andrew Kozelsky, Tanner Shaft, Jordan Vano, Tate Tufte, Jacob Kunkel, Kyle Zogg and Ryan McLaughlin. Albert Lea students in the select band are Maria Silva, Katie Callahan, Megan Stark, Kaylee Petersen, Kelly Schroeder, Ashley Holl, Kailie Drescher, Lindsey Stewart, Chrissy Meza, Tyler Egge, Zach Lind and Isaac Ware. Playing in the select orchestra from Albert Lea will be Solveig Lange, Cole Keyeski, Julia Otten, Justin Christenson, Annelisa Brown and Jessie Olson.
