MINNEAPOLIS — Gas prices are shooting well above the $4 a gallon mark in both the Twin Cities and across Minnesota.

A filling station in Golden Valley was selling a gallon of unleaded gas for $4.25 Wednesday afternoon. The website http://www.twincitiesgasprices.comwww.twincitiesgasprices.com reports scores of others had a listed price of $4.19.

Gail Weinholzer of AAA says reduced capacity due to the closures of two large refineries in the Chicago area is the main culprit.

Gas at over $4 was last common in the Twin Cities in June 2008 when the average price topped out at $3.99. But Weinholzer says with prices skyrocketing as much as 30 cents during the day Wednesday, that record will be shattered.

Weinholzer says the high gas prices could hang around until July.
