Keith Schewe, 74, Blooming Prairie

Keith Larry Schewe, 74, of Blooming Prairie, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Prairie Manor Care Center. He was born on Nov. 18, 1938, in Nunda Township, Freeborn County, to Lawrence T. and Stella P. (Nelson) Schewe. Keith attended country school near Oakland and then Austin schools.

On Dec. 14, 1958, he married Deanna Bustad at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. Over the years, the family has lived in the Oakland, Chatfield, Blooming Prairie and Glenville areas and have raised six children. Keith farmed crops and livestock for many years, and he also worked off the farm doing a variety of jobs such as working at a local elevator and road construction. Keith enjoyed vegetable gardening, collecting farm toys and going to toy shows and auction sales. Keith and Deanna had recently moved back to the Blooming Prairie area to be closer to their children.

Survivors include his wife, Deanna Schewe of Blooming Prairie; children, Wade (Val) Schewe, Christine (Brian) Wencl, Wendy (Bradley) Hines, all of Blooming Prairie, Kelly (Lance) Saathoff of Mantorville, and Darrick (Wendy) Schewe and Dan (Kasee) Schewe, both of Blooming Prairie; 17 grandchildren, Amanda (Derek) Lagervall, Serena (William) Moor, Heather (Justin) Pater, Sam (Katie) Wencl, Doug Wencl, Michael Hines, Lauren (Christopher) Heilemann, Jonathan Hines, William Hines, Josh Saathoff, Ashley Saathoff, Blaire Swinarski, Brittany Schewe, Jared Schewe, Jayden Schewe, Jackson Schewe, Jesse Schewe; 10 great-grandchildren, Lucy, Claire and Violet Lagervall, Maverick and Colton Moor, Jocelyn and Hailey Pater, Landon Bolton and Autumn Erickson, Levi Swinarski; six siblings, Charlotte (Dean) Lukes, Marlene Johnson, and L.D. (Betty) Schewe, all of Austin, LaVonne Johnson of Cataldo, Idaho, and Dennis (Geralyn) Schewe and Rick Schewe, both of Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Stella Schewe; and one granddaughter, Elissa Kay Schewe.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church in rural Austin, with the Rev. Lindsay Stolen officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Red Oak Grove Cemetery.
