Manton F. “Monnie” Marcuson, 89, of Elwood, died on Monday, May 6, 2013, at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood following an extended illness. His wife, Elsie F. Marcuson, 89, of Elwood, died just hours later on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following an extended illness. They were united in marriage on June 30, 1944, and they are now united in heaven forever.

Monnie was born on Jan. 25, 1924, in Kenyon, the son of Joseph S. and Etta (Gunhus) Marcuson. He was a graduate of Kenyon High School and later served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Monnie was a local and regional salesman for the Birkmeier Monument Co. and formerly Delphos Granite Co. for more than 53 years and retired in 2004.

Elsie was born on Jan. 28, 1924, in Glenville, the daughter of Ben and Florence (Meader) Fredrickson. She was a graduate of Albert Lea High School. Elsie was a homemaker and was self-employed as a seamstress for many years in Elwood. She truly loved sewing, making clothes and making alterations for many people in the community.

Monnie and Elsie were both devoted members of the Grace United Methodist Church in Elwood. They loved spending time not only with one another but especially with their children and grandchildren. Monnie was a member of the Elwood Elks Lodge No. 368 and was known for being a sports enthusiast. Elsie was formerly active in the Tri-Kappa Sorority Associates. Both of them will be greatly missed by their friends and family.

Their family includes two children, Leslie (Kay) Marcuson and Jeffrey (Kathy) Marcuson all of Elwood; three grandchildren, Greg (Christina) Marcuson of Nobelsville, Jason (Jen) Marcuson of Fishers and Sarah (Greg) Reimmuth of Fishers; and seven great-grandchildren. Elsie is also survived by her sister, Beverly (Robert) Phillips; brother, Bennie (Phyllis) Fredrickson; and sister-in-law, Ruby Fredrickson.

Monnie was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Spurgeon Marcuson and Joel Marcuson; and a sister, Leona Abel. Elsie was also preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Delmar Fredrickson, Bob Fredrickson and Jerry Fredrickson.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Private funeral services will be conducted with the Rev. Roger Gardner officiating and burial will take place in the Elwood City Cemetery.
