Carma Buendorf, 97, Walters

Carma L. Buendorf, 97, of Walters, died on Sunday, June 16, 2013. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bruss Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and will continue one hour prior to service at the church. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Lutheran Church in Walters. The Rev. Don Rose will officiate and the interment will be in Rice Lake Cemetery, Foster Township in Faribault County. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements.

Carma Lucille Buendorf was born on Oct. 18, 1915, in Foster Township, the daughter of Nels and Ella (Halverson) Monson. She was a longtime resident of the Foster Township community living in Alden, Freeborn and Wells. She attended school in District No. 118 in Kiester Township, District No. 87 in Freeborn County and District No. 83 in Walters. She married Henry Conrad Buendorf Dec. 16, 1933, at Faith Lutheran in Walters. Together they had five children, Clifford, Bonnie, Daniel, Clarine and Mary. For the past eight years, St. Lukes in Blue Earth has been her home.

Carma enjoyed being a housewife and raising her children and she also worked at Banquet Foods in Wells for four years. She was a member of the United Lutheran Church in Walters where she had been president and secretary of the LCW and enjoyed teaching Sunday school, and she was a 4-H leader, project counselor and a member of the Senior Citizens group in Wells.

Carma is survived by her children, Clifford Buendorf of Walters, Daniel (Sandra) Buendorf of St. Peter, Clarine (Larry) Elvebak of Kiester and Mary Speener of Cottage Grove; sister-in-law, Goldie Buendorf of Alden; 18 grandchildren, Clyde (Diane Heaney) Buendorf, David (Carol) Buendorf, Dale (Paula) Buendorf, Terrie (Dean) Snell, Kimberly (Mike) Miller, Wendy Hochrieter, Bobbi (Eric) Renkel, Tim (Stephanie Kubesh) Buendorf, Marcus (Stacey) Elvebak, Larry II (Vanessa) Elvebak, Brenda (Pete) Seys, Tammy Wigern, Mitchell (Melonie) Elvebak, Penny (Brad) Engeseth, Joni (Jeff) Henrikson, Bill Orr, Jim (Rebecca) Orr and Russell (Jackie) Orr; 38 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry, in 1990; one child, Bonnie Hochrieter; five siblings, Marvin (Lilly) Monson, Bernice (Millard) Haukoos, Earl (Marie) Monson, Pearl (Roscoe) Prescher and Kenneth (Arline) Monson; in-laws, Arnold (Margaret) Buendorf, Esther (Bill) Meyer, Helen (Herb) Schultz, Walter (Dolly) Buendorf, Irene (Hilton) Sauer, Margaret (Walter) Hintz, George Buendorf and Marion (Richard) Madson; one daughter-in-law,Vernita Buendorf; and one great-grandchild, Chad Snell.
