James Bryan, 94, Albert Lea

Funeral services for James “Jim” V. Bryan, of Albert Lea, will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Todd Walsh will officiate. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by Albert Lea veteran’s organizations. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before services at the church.

Jim died peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Thorne Crest Retirement Community’s health care wing. He was 94.

He was born on April 14, 1919, in Harvey, Iowa, the son of Ray and Fern (McMillian) Bryan.

He was a 1937 graduate of Harvey High School. Jim married Selma E. Kuether on May 13, 1942, and to this union four children were born Ray, Ron, Nancy and Steven.

Jim served our country in the U.S. Army from 1942 until he was honorably discharged in 1945, serving the European area in the 89th Division in the Medical Battalion. He obtained the rank of corporal.

After his discharge he worked for Wilson & Co, and later Albert Lea Public Schools.

Jim was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the American Legion, the VFW, and the Senior Citizen Center. He liked traveling, fishing, camping and playing pool and cards.

Jim especially enjoyed being surrounded by his loving wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife Selma, son Ron (Linda) Bryan, daughter Nancy (Kenny) Boyer, all of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Angela Ray (Greg) Sprick of Red Wing, Mike (Jennifer) Pick of Long Branch, Bridget (Aric) Leonheart of Las Vegas, Brooke Riley of Bloomington, Brie (Mike) Kinney of Champlin, Dustin Boyer of Albert Lea, Tanya (Pete) Hosfield of Sauk Rapids, Brendon (Teri) Bryan of St. Cloud, Lance (Carrie) Bryan of Lakeville; great grandchildren: Cody Hoffman, Nevaeh, Owen and Aiden Kinney, Cassie and Darin Hosfield, Eian Bryan and Logan Zank, several nieces and nephews.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; son, Ray; son, Steven in infancy; brother, Gerald Bryan; and his wife, Louise.
