A Freeborn County District Court judge sentenced a 20-year-old man last week to one year and one day in prison for violating his registration requirements as a predatory offender.

Cody Joe Arrizola of Owatonna will serve the sentence at the state prison in St. Cloud. He will receive credit for seven days already spent in jail.

The sentence from Judge Steve Schwab came after Arrizola pleaded guilty in February to the violation. He had been required to register information with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension since 2007, including where he lives, where he works, what he drives and if he owns property, among others characteristics.

According to court records, Arrizola had been living in Alden and working at Mrs. Gerry’s Kitchen in Albert Lea but did not notify authorities when he ended his employment at the company and moved to a different address.

Law enforcement was alerted to the changes by a member of Freeborn County Court Services in December 2011.

Upon further investigation, authorities discovered Arrizola had moved from the registered address in September of 2011, around the same time he quit at Mrs. Gerry’s.

According to court documents, he updated his address in November of 2011 only after receiving paperwork from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension requesting he affirm or update his registration information.
