“It was my goal to make it to state, and to place was the highlight of my career,” Allis said. “I was very relaxed and wasn’t worried about it.”

Allis, a senior, competed in the first flight of the event, and she earned a toss of 37 feet, 10 inches to earn the top finish of any athlete in the Tribune’s coverage area. She made her best throw of the season earlier this year: 38 feet, 6 1/2 inches, which still would have earned third place.

“It wasn’t my best performance ever, but I’m proud of how I did,”
Allis said.

Katelyn Webber of St. Clair was the Class A state champion with a toss of 32 feet, 8 1/2 inches, and Nailah Hill of the Breck School threw the shot put 38 feet 7 1/2 inches to take second.

Sixteen throwers competed at state.
