An astute reader sent us images of chairs that had been tossed in a large trash container this past week along Newton Street next to the former VFW building. Some were wooden and some were steel. Some looked to be in good shape. Couldn’t these chairs have been resold by donating them to the Salvation Army? If not, the Freeborn County Department of Environment Services is always on hand to offer advice on how to avoid sending good items to the landfill, such as: Set them on a curb with a “free” sign. There are sensible ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. Let’s not practice out of sight, out of mind. -- Submitted
