AL/A splits with Mayo

The Albert Lea/Austin American Legion baseball team split a doubleheader Tuesday with Rochester Mayo.
Albert Lea/Austin throttled the Red Hawks 14-3 in Game 1 and lost 5-4 in Game 2.
In Game 1, Jacob Kempen earned the win on the mound for Posts 56 and 91.
“Everything went well,” Albert Lea/Austin co-head coach Jay Enderson said. “Kempen pitched well, and we hit the ball all over the place.
“We bounced back from the other night and played strong defensively.”
Kempen struck out three batters and allowed two earned runs in six innings.
Zach Huntley caught fire at the plate for Albert Lea/Austin with a double, a triple and six RBIs.
In Game 2, the Red Hawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning, but Albert Lea/Austin’s Steve Clennon entered the game in relief for the final four innings and didn’t allow a run.
Posts 56 and 91 rallied with four runs in the seventh but came up short.
Albert Lea/Austin’s record is 7-10 overall.
Next, Posts 56 and 91 host a doubleheader with Fairmont at 5 p.m. Monday.
