Funeral services for Alma H. Halvorsen, 92, of Emmons will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mansfield Lutheran Church. The Rev. Don Rose will officiate.  Burial will be at the Lime Creek Cemetery in Emmons. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Alma died on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.

Alma Helen Halvorsen was born on Sept. 22, 1920, on the family farm in rural Emmons the daughter of Ansten and Anna (Opdahl) Laugen. She grew up near Emmons and attended District No. 84 through eighth grade, graduated from Alden-Conger High School and later attended Mankato Commercial College. On April 5, 1942, Alma was united in marriage to Leo “Bud” Russell Halvorsen Jr. at Lime Creek Lutheran Church. Alma was a member at Mansfield Lutheran Church. She had served on Lime Creek Church Council and was a Sunday school superintendent. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, camping, gardening, being a 4-H leader, writing in her journal, Sudoku and sending and receiving cards. Alma loved her life on the farm where she had a large garden, she helped with the field work, canned and froze garden produce and made many, many beautiful quilts throughout the years.

Survivors include her husband, Leo “Bud”; children, Verlaine Halvorsen of St. Paul, Daryl (Ginny) Halvorsen of Cologne, Joan (Dennis) Morgan of Wells, Anita Helland of Emmons, Steven (Cindy) Halvorsen of Emmons and Allan (Nancy) Halvorsen of Emmons; grandchildren, Tanya (Leif Pistole) Halvorsen, Adam Halvorsen, Scott (Julie) Morgan, Dwight Morgan and fiancé Kirsten Yoder, Curtis (Marie) Helland, Jason Helland, Matthew (Maridy) Helland, Jennifer (Lance) Christensen, Jill (Aaron) Thursdale, Randy (Amber) Halvorsen, Daniel (Danny) Halvorsen, Anne (Michael) Doucot and Mark (Amber) Halvorsen; 29 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mescal Gooden, Rodney (Barb) Halvorsen and Ingri (Russ) Krech; and many nieces and nephews.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Stacey Halvorsen; son-in-law, Jim Helland; brother, Orville (Palma) Laugen and brothers and sisters-in-law, Doris (Ed) Woynowskie, Maxine Halvorsen, Paul (Rose Marie and Darlene) Halvorsen and Don Gooden.
