Myrel Bauers, 93, Austin

Myrel E. Bauers, 93, of Austin, died on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home. Myrel Evelyn Brandes was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Albert Lea to Julius and Belle (Schneider) Brandes. She attended grade school in District No. 20 for one year and then transferred to District No. 22. In her first year at Albert Lea High School, her mother had a stroke so Myrel left school to take over running the household. On Sept. 2, 1939, she was united in marriage to Harold W. Bauers in Albert Lea. The couple raised two children. Myrel and Harold lived in Freeborn County until moving to Austin in April 1989. Harold passed away in 1990. An active member of Moscow Lutheran Church, Myrel worked as a cook and a waitress. She enjoyed socializing with people at church, feeding her birds, camping with her family and dancing.

Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Kruse of Ossian, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Sandy Bauers of Stewartville and Sandy’s daughter, Leah, of Rochester, Betty Bale and her son, Lenny, of Rochester; nephew, Larry (Vickie) Waltz of Corning; faithful friends Tom Dearmin and Paul Neilsen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Belle Brandes; her husband, Harold Bauers; son Richard Bauers; sister- and brother-in-law, Ivy and Archie Waltz; sister- and brothers-in-law, Lois and Herbert Bauers, Harry Bauers and Ernest K. Miller; sister-in-law, Freida Miller; and niece, Arlene (Waltz) Lunning.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Moscow Lutheran Church with the Rev. Cheryl Szabo officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
