Funeral services for Arthur M. Borland will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Timothy T. Reker and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery in Albert Lea following the service. Bonnerup Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

Arthur Borland died on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Thorne Crest Retirement Community. He was 83 years old.

Arthur was born April 3, 1930, to Arthur and Maude (Jorgenson) Borland. Arthur was born and raised in Albert Lea. Upon graduation in 1948, Arthur joined the United States Navy in 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955. On June 14, 1958, he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Haas in Chatfield.

Arthur was employed as a grocer for the Red Owl Grocery for many years and as a Realtor for Century 21. He was an active member of St. Theodore Catholic Church serving as a Eucharistic minister and taking communion to the homebound and the hospital. Art also sang in the resurrection choir.

Arthur was a leader for Cub Scouts, a member of the Elks Club, The Golden K Kiwanis and the American Legion. He enjoyed watching all levels of sports, grade school, high school and professional (Vikings and Twins), and especially his granddaughters’ games. The activities he enjoyed were camping with the family, bowling, playing golf, walks by the lake and time spent at Lake Havasu, Ariz.

Art was a gentle, kind, and witty person. He always had a smile on his face, was a family man with a great laugh and was a true gentleman.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of Albert Lea; children, Jacquelin (Jackie) and her husband Jim Heggernes of Minneapolis and Arthur E. and his wife, Jan Borland, of Maple Grove; two granddaughters, Ashley and Sidney Borland. Surviving siblings include, Marguerite Hiemenz, Barbara Herzog, Patricia Martin, William Borland and John Borland.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; and sisters, Mavis Hagmann, Kathryn Weikum and Lorna Worden.
