Paul Madsen, 85, Albert Lea

Memorial services for Paul Manvel Madsen of Albert Lea will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ascension Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Mark Boorsma will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Concordia Pickerel Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea area veterans organizations.

Mr. Madsen died on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was 85 years of age.

Paul was born Aug. 25, 1928, in Northwood, the son of Peder and Ida (Loken) Madsen. He attended public school then entered the military serving in the U.S. Marines. On Aug. 10, 1951, he was united in marriage to Kathleen (Kay) Buenneke at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.

Paul was a member of the Lunder Lutheran Church for more than 40 years before joining Ascension Lutheran. He was employed for 47 years as a mechanic for Knutson Chevrolet then becoming Bill Olson Chevrolet. Paul loved music and started the group called Dance Masters then joined the Blue Banners for many years.

Paul was a faithful Democrat and a member of the Eagles Club. He loved feeding the birds and squirrels and spending time with his pet dogs. Paul loved anything Chevrolet, John Deere tractors and playing the concertina and piano always by ear. He could be found anytime monkeying around in the garage.

Paul is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Kay) of Albert Lea; children, Larry and his wife Zane Madsen of Dennison, Carol and her husband Jeff Olson of Glenville and Bruce and his wife Debbie Madsen of Albert Lea; grandchildren, Amanda (Shawn) Sieben, Douglas Madsen, Philip Madsen, Jonathan Olson, Jill (Derek) Steward, Jina Olson, Amy (Jay) Wadding and Ryan (Lindsey) Madsen; two great-grandchildren, Kayla Wadding and Ryker Madsen; one brother, Irl (Beverly) Madsen of Northwood; and one sister-in-law, Becky Logemann of Carpenter, Iowa.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and two brothers.
