ST. PAUL — Minnesota lawmakers are headed to St. Paul for what they hope is a brief special session to approve disaster relief money.

The session convenes at 10 a.m. Monday. On the agenda is a 25 percent state match of federal relief money to help 18 Minnesota counties recover from a series of severe storms in late June.

The estimated total damage from the storms is $18 million, with the state set to cover $4.5 million.

Gov. Mark Dayton officially called the special session at the end of last week. While only the governor can call a special session, only lawmakers can adjourn it. But the Legislature’s four top leaders are all in agreement that the disaster relief package will be the only bill up for consideration.
