Let United Way have its season

There was a time that fundraisers would not be run against the United Way fund drive in the fall. It’s called “united” for a reason: Instead of being asked to give to multiple local charities, people donate to a single source.

I agree that cancer research is important. We had the Freeborn County Bike-A-Thon this spring, which goes toward the Freeborn County Relay for Life, and we have had the actual Freeborn County Relay for Life at the fairgrounds in August. The Relay for Life benefits the American Cancer Society. But now another walk/run for Relay for Life? In the fall?

Please remember that more than 90 percent of the United Way funds stay in Freeborn County and are used to help your friends and neighbors in their time of need. Our local needs are greater this year; remember to support the United Way of Freeborn County.
