Freeborn County Genealogical Society

The Freeborn County Genealogical Society met at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Freeborn County Historical Museum.

The meeting was a sharing time for members. Ideas shared were to revisit the information one already has because it might be a surprise, to document sources, to use social media like Pinterest, Facebook and Shoebox by Ancestry, and to not give up on posting information to surname or location forums because it might be three to six years before someone makes contact. The last idea shared was to use a Flip-Pal mobile scanner model 100C.

 

Presbyterian Women

Coordinating meeting of Presbyterian Women met Aug. 22 in the Hearthside Room to plan this year’s programs. A reading and prayer by Marilyn Polis, co-moderator, opened the group’s thoughts. Pat Lee, co-moderator, welcomed the group. Jill Rye, secretary, read the minutes and Dorothy Wedge, treasurer, presented the proposed budget for the year. The goal is to serve the Lord with gladness.

The group will make baby quilts, school bags and dresses for girls in Africa besides contributing to local, national and foreign missions. Jan Zehnder and Irene Weber are in charge. Nadiene Olson and Ruth Sather are working on sewers.

Betty Blankers, spiritual leader, presented the programs.

The first gathering will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 2 with dessert by Lydia Circle. The program, Cow Bell Ministry, will be presented by Joanne Brown accompanied by LaVonne Hagen from Forest City, Iowa. Everyone is invited.

On Oct. 13, following the 10 a.m. church service, the group will have an opportunity brunch with free will donations for the mission work foreign and local. Liz Peterson is doing the menu. On Nov. 2 will be the PWP meeting in White Bear Lake via the church van.

The meeting closed with prayer by Pat Lee. A loving appreciation to Bev Haugen for all the years being the group’s leader and to Carol and Chuck Foster for their dedication to the history.
