Twenty-five teams from across the state will compete in the seventh annual Ryan “Pie” Truesdell memorial softball tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
The first pitch will be tossed at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Truesdell died when he was trapped in a grain elevator at Glenville Grain.
The tournament takes place in remembrance of Truesdell, an avid softball player.
“It’s humbling as a parent to know he has so many friends who want to keep his memory alive,” Ryan’s father Scott said.
Scott is the tournament director. He said the event will include food and a raffle.
Ray Bohonek is this year’s tournament organizer. For the last six years, that responsibility rested on Scott’s shoulders.
“I wanted to get involved, because the players wanted to keep the Pie Tournament going,” Bohonek said.
Money generated will go toward the Ryan Truesdell Memorial Fund.
Teams registered from towns including Owatonna, Minneapolis, Mankato, Austin and Mason City, Iowa.
