Tigers earn 3rd place out of 8 teams at Austin Invitational

The Albert Lea girls’ swimming team broke a few meet records on its way to a third place finish in Saturday’s Austin Invitational.

The Tigers finished third out of eight teams. Rochester Mayo and Mankato West finished first and second. The Tigers placed ahead of Rochester John Marshall, a team that took them down in a meet earlier this season.

The Tigers finished first — and set meet records — in three events: the 200-yard medley relay, the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke.

The team of Bailey Sandon, Lindsey Horejsi, Ahnika Jensen and Anna Anderson took home the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:54.34. Horejsi won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.20. Horejsi also won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.16

Anderson also picked up the win in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54:37.

The Tigers were kind of feast or famine. Albert Lea finished near the middle to back of the pack in the events that it didn’t win, but the four solid wins were enough for them to finish 22 points ahead of John Marshall.

The box score is in the Scoreboard: Oct. 5 post.
