Church to celebrate 150 years

First Baptist Church of Clarks Grove will celebrate its 150th anniversary Oct. 11-13.

The church was first organized on Oct. 11, 1863, as First Danish Baptist Church. A party of six Danish Baptists traveled from La Crosse, Wis., by a lumber wagon drawn by ox to Freeborn County and had planned to travel further, but out of fear abandoned those plans. In Freeborn County where they decided to stay, they found people of their own nationality and religious beliefs and were content.
