The descendants of Jorgen and Anna (Andersen) Hansen celebrated their 50th annual reunion on July 20 and 21. The first reunion was Aug. 5, 1962, at the Erhart and Hazel (Hansen) Penning farm home near Lyle. The celebration began on July 20 at the Anderson farm near London; 69 family members attended that day to look at photos, maps and to visit. The event continued July 21 at the Fairlane Building at the Freeborn County Faigrounds. A potluck was served to 106 family members and four guests. Everyone watched videos, looked at photos and genealogy books. Those present include the one surviving daughter-in-law, Berneta Hansen, of Albert Lea, and nine of the remaining 13 grandchildren including the first grandchild, Evelyn (Nelsen) Ferber, of Albert Lea. Other family members visited from Minnesota, Oregon, California, New York, Tennessee, Alaska, Colorado, Nebraska and Canada. The 2014 reunion will be held the third Sunday in July. Family members made new memories, renewed old relationships and started new one they hope will last the next 50 years.
