ST. PAUL — Officials with Minnesota’s new online health insurance marketplace say nearly 5,000 people created new accounts in the first week, despite a bumpy start.
MNsure Executive Director April Todd-Malmlov said the number is higher than anticipated.
She also said the call center averaged 1,000 calls a day from across the state.
State- and federally run health insurance exchanges that are key to the Obama administration’s care overhaul went live across most of the country Tuesday morning. MNsure delayed its launch until that afternoon to run additional tests. Many early visitors to the MNsure website had trouble creating accounts, which was traced to a server problem.
Todd-Malmlov said by Friday, 97 percent of consumers were “able to get through at the MNsure end.”
