ST. PAUL — The top Republican in the Minnesota House has accused an agency in Gov. Mark Dayton’s administration of straying into partisan politics with a report on the state’s economy. Dayton’s office rejects the charge.

House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt wrote to Dayton on Monday about a presentation delivered last week in a legislative hearing. Daudt says the slideshow was filled with buzzwords more commonly found in a campaign advertisement. He urged the Democratic governor to halt its future use.

The Department of Employment and Economic Development report highlighted “games and gimmicks” it says contributed to past state budget instability. An official was barely into her presentation when Republicans voiced concerns. The presentation was cut short.

Dayton spokesman Bob Hume says the accusation of a potential law violation is “ridiculous.”
