Hazel Severson, 95, Clear Lake

Hazel T. Severson, 95, of Clear Lake, died on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Clear Lake Christian Church in Clear Lake with the Rev. Scott Wilson officiating. Visitation will be an hour and a half prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.
Hazel T. Severson was born in Forest City, Iowa, on Sept. 12, 1918, the daughter of Osmund and Ovedia (Gjovik) Heimdahl. She grew up on a farm near Forest City and attended country school near her home.
On Feb. 25, 1939, she was united in marriage to Fred Severson. The couple made their home in Forest City and raised three daughters Lois, Helen and Mary.
Hazel enjoyed being part of her church. She loved gardening and making leafs for the holidays. She looked forward to going fishing with her family and friends each year. For several seasons she spent the winter months in Texas and Arkansas. She also loved her trips to China, Hawaii and Israel.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Lois (Lowell) Emrud, of Dodge Center, Iowa; son-in-law, Wayne Smith, of Clear Lake; son-in-law Sid (Shirley) Jordahl of Rochester; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; two daughters Mary Jordahl and Helen Smith; brothers Edwin Heimdahl, Sam Heimdahl, Alfred Heimdahl and Otis Heimdahl; and a sister, Jennie Burrel.
