COLD SPRING — Residents of Cold Spring marked the one-year anniversary of the shooting death of local police officer Tom Decker with an evening candlelight vigil.
City employees organized the Friday vigil at the request of Decker’s widow, Alicia. She spoke during the vigil, and the crowd sang “Amazing Grace.”
Decker was on duty last Nov. 29 when he responded to a report of a possibly suicidal man in an apartment above a downtown bar. He was shot behind the bar as he looked for the man in question, who police later cleared in the shooting.
A second man whom police were prepared to arrest for the killing committed suicide in early January.
