ST. PAUL  — Preparing for a re-election campaign, Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton says he’ll report having raised roughly $1 million in 2013.

He shared the figure in an interview Friday with The Associated Press. He won’t have to formally detail his campaign finances until the end of January, when all candidates for office and state political groups submit reports to regulators.

The haul is noteworthy for a candidate who has relied heavily on his own bank account for past campaigns. In 2010, Dayton loaned his campaign about $3.9 million.

A change in state law allowed candidates for governor to accept up to $4,000 per donor.

Dayton said he hopes his fundraising strength erases doubt about his determination to seek a second term.

Seven Republicans have launched campaigns to challenge him in 2014.
