Government is no place for Christmas

Who knew that the true meaning of Christmas is found in government programs — minimum wage, Obamacare, extended unemployment benefits, higher taxes, “jobs bills” and food stamps? The writer of a letter in the Dec. 15 issue graces us with his interpretation of the Bible. He is so sure of his interpretation, that he is prepared to impose it, not just on other Christians, but non-Christians and non-believers as well. Whatever happened to separation of church and state?
The core of the writer’s argument is: The Bible and the Pope say we should take care of the poor; therefore we must use whatever force is necessary, by whatever means is necessary, to compel people to do so, through the coercive apparatus of the government.
