The second of two men accused of assaulting another man with a baseball bat in November has pleaded not guilty to his charge.

The plea is the same as co-defendant Joel Rodriguez, 21, of Austin, earlier this month.

Court documents state the men allegedly struck a 27-year-old Albert Lea man in the head with a bat on Nov. 9 outside of 1010 Abbott St. The alleged victim was airlifted to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester for blunt force trauma to the head.

Police were initially dispatched to the address after receiving a report of vehicles that were attempting to run people over. Officers were told there was a possible stabbing and were given a description of a suspect vehicle that had left the scene, according to court documents.

A short distance away, police found the vehicle matching the description and stopped it. Baseball bats were found inside the vehicle, reports stated.
