Student found dead was team leader at U of M

MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Minnesota freshman found dead near campus in subzero weather grew up in Orono where he was a leader on the high school varsity lacrosse team.

The body of 19-year-old Jacob Anderson was found Sunday morning along the Mississippi River near the Stone Arch Bridge. Police say no foul play was involved.

Anderson was enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and lived in Pioneer Hall. Liberal Arts interim dean Raymond Duvall encouraged students to watch out and take care of each other.

Anderson was the goalie of the Orono High School lacrosse team that won the Section 8 championship this year. His coach, Josh Scott, says his death is a shock to everyone.
