USC girls start season with win

The United South Central girls’ basketball team is off to a 1-0 start after a 55-45 home win Tuesday over Blue Earth.

After building a 26-24 advantage at halftime, the Rebels extended their lead to double-digits in the second half.

USC head coach Stu Hendrickson said his team played better as a whole after halftime.

“We cut our turnovers down and and did a better job of rebounding in the second half,” he said. “The whole team stepped up. It was a team win.”

Freshman Shianne Robertson led the Rebels with 18 points and sophomore Lauren Allis earned a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. She also blocked three shots. Tara Bauman led USC with seven assists. She scored six points and grabbed six boards.

Next, the Rebels play at New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva at 7:15 Thursday. The game is NRHEG’s season opener.
